Why We’re Backing Blueprint’s Mission to Empower Mental Health Clinicians
“My mission for Blueprint is so that every patient can now benefit from the collective knowledge and progress of those who came before them.” - Danny Freed, Founder/CEO of Blueprint
Ensemble VC is excited to share that we’ve co-led a $9 million Series A round in Blueprint with Lightbank and participation from Bonfire Ventures, Revolution, Tau Ventures, and other angel investors.
Nearly one in five adults in the US experienced some form of mental illness in 2021, and over 50 million adults received mental health services that year. While accessibility to mental health services has improved significantly in the last decade (from more clinicians entering the field as well as the introduction of telehealth solutions), the surge in demand has revealed a secondary problem - how many patients are actually receiving the best treatment and are they getting better and staying better.
When you look at the alarming stats about mental health in America, it's hard to ignore the urgency of the issue. And when you hear the incredibly personal story of what drove Danny Freed to found Blueprint, it's even more evident why we wanted to support the company’s mission to empower mental health clinicians and improve patient outcomes.
Blueprint: Danny’s Story
Ten years ago, Danny tragically lost his best friend to suicide even though his friend had access to mental health services, but the treatment proved ineffective.
As Danny sought to better understand his friend’s tragic journey, he learned that most treatments are delivered through a trial and error approach - without clear feedback loops to demonstrate the true efficacy of a treatment on a patient. The lack of evidence/data collected digitally also contributed to the problem.
And so it was through these observations that Danny founded Blueprint to deliver better care to patients by arming mental health clinicians with the tools to more easily collect and analyze patient assessment data while also communicating with patients in between therapy sessions.
Meet Blueprint:
Blueprint’s software equips therapists with data-driven insights to run more effective sessions and streamline documentation. They make data collection easier, which historically has been a real challenge in the mental health field. This helps clinicians to track outcomes and gather meaningful data in between sessions, empowering them to deliver more effective treatments, even in between sessions.
The power of Blueprint lies in its ability to expedite patients' progress toward recovery. With Blueprint, patients have experienced a 44% faster improvement in their well-being compared to traditional mental health treatments (six weeks faster). And Blueprint also saves clinicians up to two hours per week on notes/documentation, allowing clinicians to invest more time with patients.
Blueprint has now generated insights from more than one million completed sessions, creating one of the world’s largest multimodal mental healthcare datasets equating to 10 million days of information. And as Blueprint becomes the largest repository for mental health outcome data, this further unlocks opportunities. Danny likes to say “every patient can now benefit from the collective knowledge and progress of those who came before them.”
Blueprint has helped over 4,500 clinicians provide data-driven care to more than 180,000 patients. And as a data-driven VC fund, we also recognize how crucial it is to have solutions that are backed by data and that's why we are so excited to support Blueprint as it continues to grow.
So, what’s next for Blueprint?
Blueprint is already doing some incredible work in transforming mental healthcare. They've made a huge impact for individual practitioners, small-to-medium sized groups, and large clinical organizations to date. With this new round of funding, they’re looking to add to an already amazing team across marketing, customer success, and engineering to keep pushing forward.
