Conrad Shang

As a Founder and Managing Partner at Ensemble VC, Conrad Shang leads the firm alongside co-founders Collin and Gopi, leveraging his experience as a founder, operator, investor, and LP to guide Ensemble’s vision. Having witnessed the full lifecycle of startups—from inception to exit and distribution—Conrad is deeply committed to building a venture firm that drives transformative impact. His success in venture capital was recognized by the Kauffman Fund Returner Index, where he was ranked #27 for his excellence in investing and supporting category-defining startups. To date, Conrad has invested in seven unicorns, including three IPOs.

Before founding Ensemble VC, Conrad led the $4 billion venture capital portfolio at The University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO), managing investments in top-performing VC funds globally and making direct investments in companies such as Rover (NASDAQ: ROVR), Techstars, Aqua Security, and Salsify. Prior to UTIMCO, Conrad was an investor at Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), where he spearheaded investments in Udemy (NASDAQ: UDMY), Casper (NYSE: CSPR), STRATIM (acquired by KAR), and Good.Co (acquired by StepStone GmbH). Earlier in his career, Conrad worked as a product manager at Yammer, helping lead the company to its $1 billion acquisition by Microsoft, and as an investor at Bain Capital Ventures. He began his professional journey as a management consultant at Bain & Company.

Conrad holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BBA from The University of Texas at Austin, where his love for the Longhorns was solidified. Outside of work, Conrad enjoys foodie adventures, trekking through breathtaking landscapes like Patagonia, and channeling his inner Larry David around town. Conrad lives in Austin, TX, with his wife and two young children.
